Get Help Navigating the Bipolar Seas

If you have bipolar disorder, you will need help managing your symptoms. Having a therapist who understands the spectrum of bipolar disorders is key. Many clients report experiences with clinicians who over rely on psychiatrists to solve the issue, as though medication alone is the solution. In reality, the mood swings and manic episodes emblematic of bipolar spectrum disorders are not so easily managed.

Bipolar disorder can feel like being at sea, you can feel vulnerable to phenomena beyond your power to control. You are riding high and fast in manic episodes for a time, then crushed in the troughs of depression another time, and may feel trapped in this cycle. With the right support and intervention, you can learn these moods are manageable– they are the natural ebb and flow of your mental tide.

Often when I begin work with clients newly diagnosed as bipolar, it is in the wake of a manic or depressive episode. Some are experiencing the trauma that can come after these episodes, especially if they needed a hospital stay. People can lose jobs, friends, feel their family relationships were damaged, or feel social stigma after an episode. This is so much to deal with after just completing the hard work of getting themselves stable. There is a way to navigate these storms and blunt their impact with preparation and support.

In our sessions, we will collaborate to identify and understand your individual triggers for mania as well as what the start of a depressive cycle looks like for you. We can also work on resolving past trauma. Mostly, you will find in me a knowledgeable, intuitive clinician who can support you and help you be better prepared to weather future storms.
